6 Simple, Yet Festive, Tips for Decorating Your Front Porch for Fall

One of the best ways to celebrate and spread the spirit of the season is by decorating your front porch for fall. With a fun autumn display, you’ll instantly boost your St. Clair Shores curb appeal and impress your friends, family, and neighbors! Consider using the following quick and easy tips from Mancuso’s Florist to create a stunning and festive front porch decor design.

Mums and Pumpkins

Blooming Fall Flowers

Chrysanthemums are absolutely the most popular flowers for fall. They’re available in nearly every color of the rainbow, including all of autumn’s favorites like red, yellow, gold, and orange. Plus, they’re in-season, so they’ll continue blooming through Thanksgiving Day. (Just be sure to bring them inside before a frost.) Chrysanthemums are bright and soft and look lovely adorning a front porch, steps, or front door in fall. We also love blooms like kalanchoe, marigolds, lantana, and goldenrod. Create a full floral look by filling out your flowers with plenty of greenery, like croton plants and potted kale.

Pretty Pumpkins and Gorgeous Gourds

Fall doesn’t feel quite like fall without pumpkins, so don’t forget to include at least a few in your front porch display. We recommend selecting a variety of shapes, colors, sizes, and textures to create interesting groupings among your fall flowers. You can get really creative by stenciling festive designs like owls or acorns onto your pumpkins, spraying them in gold or silver metallic paint, or painting your house numbers on them in bold font to help visitors find your house. Although carving jack-o-lanterns is popular for Halloween, we recommend leaving pumpkins intact to ensure they last throughout fall.

Front Door Focus

The front door should always be the focal point of a decorative front porch design. Don’t forget to highlight yours in a big way. You can create a playful front door design, like this one which features good hospitality with a basket of freshly picked apples. You can also go for a more traditional look with an autumn wreath. Look for one is colors that complement the hue of your front door and play it up with miniature pumpkins, pinecones, and festive ribbon. If your door cannot accommodate a wreath, try draping a garland of fall foliage over the doorframe.

Toasty Textiles

It’s time to put your outdoor textiles featuring summery prints, colors, and themes into storage and bring out something that feels more like autumn. We recommend using cozy and warm textiles, including a few flannel blankets to encourage spending more time outside, even though the temperature’s dropping. Spring for pillows, blankets, and outdoor mats in plaid prints and warm colors.

Autumn Embellishments

Transition your entire front porch display from October to November, using a variety of autumn accents. In October, you can feature spookier items, like bats, jack-o-lanterns, and ghosts. After Halloween, go for a harvest-centered theme featuring items like acorns, scarecrows, corn stalks, and hay bales.

Bountiful Beauty

Fall is all about harvest, and harvest’s all about abundance. Reflect this part of the season with a bountiful design that looks like a cornucopia spilled on your front porch. To make your full arrangement look put together, intentional, and pleasing to the eye, keep it symmetrical and feature a wide variety of elements, including plants, pumpkins, gourds, and other fall accents.
